Borders and Burpees – Introduction

Thanks for stopping by and welcome to Borders and Burpees. This is a blog about travelling and fitness. In that order because, let’s be honest, I think most people would agree with me that seeing the world is a lot more appealing than having sweat drip into your eyes! Which obviously never happens to me because if I hadn’t already mentioned it, I’m a girl in my mid 20’s and according to my nearest and dearest (mum), women don’t ‘sweat’, they ‘glow’.

Now just to clarify, I’m not some crazy fitness fanatic traveller who has attempted to cycle their way through 20 countries, although I’m sure that would have made for a much better blog!? Oops, maybe next time! Instead I’m just a regular girl who just so happens to love seeing the world and keeping fit and healthy in the process. What exactly is the definition of ‘fit’ though? On a scale of boot camp to walking up six flights of stairs, I’m definitely boot camp. What does that mean? Well, basically, I can happily attend gruelling fitness classes but somehow after five years of living on the top floor of a block of flats, I still can’t get through the door without looking like I’ve just completed a five mile run. And let’s face it, no one looks ‘fit’ (other sense of the word) after doing that!

My love of travelling started from a very young age and in my reasonably short existence, I’ve had the pleasure of already seeing a lot of the world. I’m always looking to visit new places and encounter new experiences so travelling will always be my one true love! It’s slightly ironic however that I’m writing this whilst it’s raining outside and I’m in my home country of Scotland. Such is life!

As for the ‘burpee’ part of this blog, exercising hasn’t always been a core focus of mine. Don’t get me wrong, at school I participated in a lot of different sports teams but I did it more for the social aspect than anything else. As I matured though and started to take responsibility of my own health and fitness I soon realised just how important it is to maintain. Especially now that I’m no longer a bottomless pit and those five smartie cookies or large bag of mixed popcorn (yes I’m that guy) go straight to wherever I don’t want them to go!! So with those cookies and popcorn in mind, as I know that I’ll never truly be able to say no, I opt for all sorts of fitness classes, gym sessions and go running, walking, skipping (no, not skipping) but you get the idea!

So, welcome again and I hope you enjoy my ramblings 🙂
